Tile Finisher
Tile Finishers are employed by Tile Contractors to assist Tile Layers, their tasks include mixing mortar, installing grout, clean finished surfaces, stock materials, and perform other duties on new and remodeled construction. Work is physically strenuous and may involve scaffolding. Apprentices are required to join the union in order to participate in our program. The tile finisher is an integral part of the tile industry, and a prerequisite for advancement to Tile Layer.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Have valid drivers license
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Able to perform the usual physical requirements of the trade.
- Willing and able to attend school (2) Saturdays per month
(126 hours per year)
An apprentice with no prior experience enters our program at a pay rate of 40% of the current journeyman rate. The apprentice must attend all scheduled classes and complete all assignments. When the apprentice has been in our program for six months and accrued 700 work hours and 29 school hours they will become eligible for a pay increase. This process continues for each increase. They should complete the program in two years (3500 hours on-the-job training)
The Tile Finishers have schools located in Hayward, Vallejo, Sacramento and Fresno.
Applications
We take applications each weekday between the hours of 8:30 am. and 11:30 am. at the Apprentice Office. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
