Child Daycare Worker

Required Courses

The goal of this six-month program is to train adults to work in public and private day care centers, pre-schools and nursery schools working with
children from birth to five years of age. Candidates must attend two one-hour sessions of Child Care Aide during the morning and a two-hour Concepts
class in the afternoon. Students enrolling in Child Care Aide must show proof of a clear TB test before the first day of class. Fingerprinting will take place
after registration for a $60 fee.

Computer Repair

Required Courses

True hands-on course prepares students for the job of Desktop Computer Technician.  Students will carry out installations, replacements and upgrades of computer sub-systems.  Students will perform the installation of operating systems, user programs and modification of computer configuration and startup files.  Students will be able to troubleshoot and repair PC-type computers.

Custodian

The emphasis of this course will be to prepare students with the necessary skills to embark on a new career in the custodial field.  This training will enable students to obtain jobs with school districts, hospitals, private industry, or self-employment.  Successful completion of this course will satisfy the Hayward School District’s application requirement of six months custodial experience.  The participants will learn about chemicals and equipment use, cleaning, maintenance, security, and energy savings, thus contributing to a healthier and safer community.

Customer Service Representative

Required Courses

Customer Service Representative, as well as providing customer service skills necessary for many other careers. Customer service strategies, including: building a customer-driven organization; reasons to be customer focused; and importance of customer feedback. Students develop a variety of interpersonal communication skills necessary for success in today’s workplace. Topics include (using a video format): dealing with difficult people; conflict resolution; stress management; workplace harassment issues; resume writing; and interview skills.

MicroSoft Certified Application Specialist

Microsoft Office is an exciting, new program that teaches a student to be inter-connected between the software applications of  Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Internet options will be explored.  Upon completion of this program, one will possess the competency required to become certified as an expert MicroSoft Certified Application Specialist.

Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Introduction to Computers class or demonstrated competency in Windows environment.
