GED Test Info

 

BE SURE TO READ CAREFULLY ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW. 

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY CAUSE INDIVIDUALS TO BE REFUSED TESTING.

GENERAL INFORMATION

            GED Tests are given weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (with the exception of Summer Quarter)
Tests start at 1:00 pm weekly and at 6:00 pm twice a month.

Testing dates may vary depending upon holiday schedules and student demand.  

Call or check website www.has.edu/gedtestschedule.php to verify testing dates.
Late arrivals will not be admitted and must reschedule.

Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early!

*Registration Hours:
Monday-Thursday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm or 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the (Registration Office)

Allow 45 minutes to register.  You must bring your current driver’s license or other government
issued identification with picture, birth date, address, & signature and registration fee (cash or credit card) in order to register.

Registration and payment  must be completed 24 hrs. before the test.
Failure to complete registration will prohibit testing for that day.

*No test scores are given over the Phone.  No tests will be scored at the Hayward Test Center.  
Scoring will be completed at the ETS center in Concord.  Examinees will need to plan ahead to meet deadlines
for jobs, college or postsecondary institution entry dates.  Official passing scores & certificates will be mailed from ETS.

The GED Test consists of 5 individual tests

Test #1: WRITING SKILLS.................. 2 hours     (Tuesday only)
                                    Part One (50 questions); Part Two (Essay)
                                    BOTH PARTS MUST BE TAKEN AT THE SAME TESTING

Test #2: MATHEMATICS (50 questions) 1 hour, 30 minutes  (Wednesday only)
The Math Series consists of two parts.  Part One 25 questions will require the examinee to operate a FX-260 Solar Scientific Calculator to answer questions  (Calculators will be provided by the Test Center to examinees) Part Two - 25 questions will not allow a calculator*
Test #3:        READING....... (40 questions)...... 1 hour, 5 minutes      (Wednesday only)
Test #4:        SOCIAL STUDIES (50 questions) 1 hour, 10 minutes   (Thursday only)
Test #5:        SCIENCE..... (50 questions)........... 1 hour, 20 minutes    (Thursday only)

*Examinees who are concerned about the use of a Scientific Calculator are encouraged to drop
by the Learning Center for instruction and practice

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR TESTING

*Individuals age 18 or older may test whether or not they are enrolled in school.

*Individuals within 60 days of their 18th birthday may test whether or not they are enrolled in school.

* Exceptions:
1.  17 year olds may test within 60 days of original graduation date had they stayed in school
     (NOTE: must be documented in writing on official school letterhead)

2.  17 year olds may test if they have been out of school 60 days and present written request from military,    
     prospective employer, or post secondary institution that test is required for entry
    (NOTE: both conditions must exist and be documented on official letterhead)

REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHEDULING TESTS

 
  1. Early registration is encouraged as testing dates fill rapidly at peak testing times
  2. Cost:   $130 for entire test series  
  3. Retest cost: $12 for writing and $9 for each of the other tests
  4. Please cancel 24 hours in advance of testing. Rescheduling must be done in person

REQUIREMENTS FOR PASSING AND RETESTING

  1. In addition to passing each Individual test with a score of 410 points or above, you need to have an average score of 450
    or a (total score of 2250).
  2. Examinees may be required to wait 6 months before retesting any test not passed at 410
    Individual tests may be taken 3 times in any calendar year.

ITEMS TO BRING TO TESTING ROOM

Current driver’s license or other government issued identification with picture, birth date, address, & signature receipt for fees paid

DO NOT BRING any personal items: purse, cell phone, pager, tote bag, portable music players, hand-held electronic games, food or drink items, textbooks, dictionaries, notebooks, unauthorized computational aid, supplies, scratch paper, jackets, coats or hats.  These and any other personal items may not be kept with your at your seat.  Any items brought into the testing center will need to be left at the front of the room.  The Hayward Adult School is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

You may NOT leave the room during a test.  Please use the restroom before or after a test session

Once instructions have begun, the door will not be opened.
