March 25, 2020: School Closures Extended Through May 1, 2020
Posted 3/25/20

Dear HUSD Community,

In collaboration with local public health officers and school district leaders, the county superintendents of schools in six Bay Area counties announced today the need to extend school closures through May 1, 2020. This decision prioritizes the need to keep students, families, and staff safe by slowing the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

HUSD’s new target date for reopening schools now shifts to Monday, May 4, although we recognize that new information could impact these decisions at any time. While this news is disappointing, our staff has been working hard since our school closures began on March 16 to continue vital services to our community. To this end, we have served over 14,000 meals and we are distributing Chromebooks to students this week to support home learning.

The news is not surprising, but I know that school closures cause a major disruption to the lives of our HUSD community. We are committed to continuously improving the distance learning experience of our students and to providing the resources needed for their educational, emotional, and physical well-being.

This new announcement will undoubtedly raise many questions. HUSD will continue to share regular communications to provide answers as we have them. Please continue to shelter in place, wash your hands, and follow all of the safety recommendations provided by our state and local agencies.
